Dr Leonie Thom
Lead Vet
  • BVSc

Leonie graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2002 having grown up in rural north-eastern Victoria. She commenced working as a mixed-practice veterinarian in north-west Victoria and then Launceston in Tasmania. Realising her main interest was in small animal practice she then began working in suburban small animal clinics firstly in Melbourne, before moving to Brisbane in 2008 where she has worked in two very busy clinics offering high standards of care.

Leonie has continued to advance her skills in all areas of small animal medicine and surgery throughout her career to the point where she has a fascination for the unusual medical case and refuses to let anything beat her. It was this dedication that in 2017 found her publishing about a rare and poorly understood muscular disorder in cats after finding a small piece of new information that will hopefully help discover a cause for the disease in the future. Most recently Leonie has realised a passion for behavioural medicine of animals, a fascinating and evolving field parallel to mental health medicine in humans. She is looking forward to incorporating a day-to-day clinical medicine approach that is mindful of each individual patient’s needs whenever they come for a visit to the surgery, as well as consulting for cases with long term behaviour problems while she continues her study in the field.

Leonie’s interests include karate (she is a 3rd dan Black Belt in Seido Karate), mountain biking (especially downhill – the scarier the more fun) and reading and cross stitching for some quiet time. She lives with her fiance, Meg the Coolie and Molly the cat.

Dr Dion Woodborne
Orthopaedic & Soft Tissue Surgeon
  • BVSc
  • MANZCVS (Surgery)

Being born and raised in South Africa, Dion had the kind of introduction into a career in the care of animals that Australian trained vets only get to dream about. As a school leaver, Dion studied Nature Conservation, and worked for 3 years for the Natal Parks Board as a ranger, working amongst the amazing wildlife of Africa on land and at sea. Dion’s exciting experiences include getting up close and personal with Great White Sharks and Seals off the South African Coast, whilst participating in the tagging and monitoring of these magnificent creatures.

Dion completed his Veterinary degree and went on to work in large and small animal practices in South Africa, the UK, and NZ before settling on the Sunshine Coast with his young family.  Their home is a menagerie of creatures, with birds and dogs, and a blue tongue lizard, which Dion and his daughters reared after rescuing it from a roadside as an injured baby. Dion is an avid water sportsman; he has solo swum the English Channel and is now a keen kite boarder.

Dion is passionate about surgery, and in 2011, after rigorous written and oral examinations, he gained his Membership to the Australian College of Veterinary Surgeons, in Small Animal Surgery.

Practice Manager

Kirsten moved to Brisbane from Perth in 2015 and is still enjoying the exciting opportunities Brisbane has to offer.

Kirsten commenced her nursing career straight out of school, starting out as a trainee nurse in 2008. Kirsten quickly worked her way up to the position of Nursing Manager and has remained in various management roles in both emergency and general practice settings since 2010.

Since moving to Brisbane, Kirsten has worked in medical centres of both the human and animal medical facilities. She still finds that after 10 years her passion still lays with the animal species.

Kirsten lives with her partner, James, and her French Bulldog, Charlie. She is a bit of a social butterfly and in her spare time loves exploring Brisbane and camping up and down the coast of Queensland. Whilst keeping fit and healthy she also loves activities such as dance, netball, cooking, going to the gym and taking advantage of the beautiful beaches with friends and her very spoilt Frenchie, Charlie!

Vet Nurse

Molly joined our Albion Vet Surgery team in March 2019.  She has been Vet Nursing for over 2 years now and enjoys all aspects of general practice. Over the past two years Molly has developed a great interest in animal behaviour and will be working closely with Dr Leonie to expand her knowledge of the behaviour world case by case.

Molly enjoys playing sports and hanging out with her fur baby, Ryder the Manx.

Junior Vet Nurse

Abigail (Abby), is our Junior nurse here at Albion! She joined our team late 2019 and has been a great asset to our friendly team.

Abby has a handsome Border Collie named "Marley" who loves to play at the clinic time to time with Charlie (The French Bulldog).

Abby is very passionate in all aspects of nursing and is looking forward to building great client relationships with each and everyone of you.

Groomer & Animal Attendant

Bianca has been passionate about all animals since she was a child. She completed a cert III in Animal Studies, and has been working here with the animals since she started the course in 2012. With over 7 years’ experience, you can be sure your cat or dog will be in excellent hands with Bianca. She is very gentle and caring so even the most anxious dogs love having hydrobaths with her.

When not at work, Bianca can be found with “Murphy” her Shih Tzu x Lhasa Apso and “Bailey” her rescue Tabby cat. She enjoys rock climbing, trail running, gardening and reading.
